Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun, Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoiceth as a strong man to run a race. His going forth is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto the ends of it: and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof.
(Psalms 19:4-6) KJV
Contrary to popular opinion, the Earth doesn’t have an elliptical orbit of the sun. The Earth-sun radius is, for all practical purposes, constant.

Earth is a Goldilocks kind of place: not too hot, not too cold. How far out of whack can the orbit of a planet like Earth get before we all die?

The Earth/sun orbit is, for all practical purposes, circular but all of the other planets have elliptical orbits. Why? Because the Earth and sun are the two foci in the elliptical orbits of the other planets.
Direct observation from Earth is that the planets appear to have elliptical orbits around the Sun. We observe this planetary system orbit the Earth every day. That means that the Earth is f1, the Sun is f2 in the elliptical orbits.
