Straightening out the Spaghetti

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

(2 Timothy 2:15) KJV

We’re going to straighten out the spaghetti but it can get bogged down in technicalities, which is why having a simple answer is preferable. The questions are good questions, though. This actually happens sometimes, even on Twitter.

Something that we have to say right off the bat is, we haven’t come under the judgment of God because of original sin, but for our own sin (My Sin). Every single one of us is going to have to give an account for our own sin. We’re not held accountable for the sins of our fathers, we’re held accountable for our own sin.

There are several Biblical concepts that have to be understood in order to resolve the question which we were asked:

  • Original Sin
  • The Cursed Earth
  • My Sin
  • Justification
  • Redemption
  • Propitiation

There also needs to be at least some level of understanding of the big picture, or the context of how humanity fits into creation, this is what we frequently refer to as the broad narrative.

The Broad Narrative of Scripture

The Bible is consistent throughout because it describes the physical expression in space and time of spiritual concepts, like light and darkness, good and evil, which are as fundamental as the elemental particles the universe.
