The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
(2 Peter 3:9) KJV
The Lord is obviously doing a work in our time, COVID-19 and it’s still unknown ramifications are proof, the question is: what is it?
Let’s consider the church. Most churches are bravely soldiering on into the COVID-19 era by producing a stream of online content. That’s great. The problem is, research has revealed that one in three practicing Christians has stopped attending church services, online or in person. Can you imagine the scope of this. 30% of people who were once regular church attenders, who outwardly lived a church-centered way of life, simply stopped church when the pandemic began. Some people will no doubt believe that this is the great falling away.
Let’s consider education. The COVID-19 situation is getting worse and worse. Schools most likely won’t get back in session this fall. What will the kids be learning at home? More importantly, what won’t they be learning because they’re not in school? However you slice it public education is a system designed to indoctrinate our youth in the popular science narrative of godless existence (SciPop). However, it may well be that the power that the education system had over the next generation has been taken away.
Could this be a perfect storm: an unprecedented opportunity to reboot both the church and education? Who and what is going to fill the void?
We’ve already shown that if science can prove the Bible then atheism isn’t intellectually viable. We can continue this line of reasoning into Christian doctrine. If science can prove that hell is at the center of the Earth, then any Christian teaching that doesn’t have hell at the center of Earth isn’t viable.
This is rather profound and it lies at the heart of the reason why Christian doctrine wandered away from the belief that hell is at the center of the Earth in the first place. The reasoning goes: If SciPop can show that it’s not possible for hell to be at the center of the Earth (it can’t) then all of the passages in which Jesus taught about hell have to be reinterpreted to be about something else, or else Jesus is a liar. If Jesus lied then he wasn’t sinless and therefore couldn’t pay the price for our redemption.
No hell, no savior. Besides, if there’s no hell then what do we need to be saved from?
Let’s put hell back into the center of the Earth.
