Highly Similar Plant Communities

Statements that the Earth had a uniform equable climate during geological periods are a little misleading. Sediments are assigned to periods based on their flora and fauna, so it’s just a little microcosm of circular reasoning.

“Highly similar plant communities composed of ginkgos, conifers, ferns, cycads, and cycadeoids. Some pteridosperms“. Variation in aspect and altitude affect plant communities. The climate was similar everywhere. As a result, certain habitats were distributed evenly around the globe wherever certain combinations of aspect and altitude occurred.

You may remember that the entire surface of the globe was dominated by four major mountain chains which all originated at Ros, the highest point, also known as Eden. As such, the variation in altitude and aspect were the primary reasons for the variety of habitats found on the Earth. For example, a North-facing slope at high altitude would have a very different habitat than a South-facing slope at low elevation.

Habitats are usually identified according to their plant community structure. The assemblage of plant species in a habitat is what makes that habitat unique. Animals are adapted to eat, forage and live in specific habitats, according to the plant community. Clearly there were places all over the world which were ideally suited to the development of a plant community which included ginkgos, conifers, ferns, cycads, and cycadeoids (with some pteridosperms). This attracted certain types of higher insects, birds and dinosaurs. Every time one of these habitats is found fossilized it is assigned to the Jurassic. This is a classic example of circular reasoning.
