Wash Your Clothes

And the LORD said unto Moses, Go unto the people, and sanctify them to day and to morrow, and let them wash their clothes, And be ready against the third day: for the third day the LORD will come down in the sight of all the people upon mount Sinai.

And Moses went down from the mount unto the people, and sanctified the people; and they washed their clothes.

And Moses brought forth the people out of the camp to meet with God; and they stood at the nether part of the mount.

(Exodus 19:10-11, 14, 17) KJV

Possibly the best advice which is the most sustainable and will avoid falling into the trap of trying to out do the Jones is this: wear clean clothes. The state of our heart is what counts, and only God can see that.

Dirty clothes don’t indicate the condition of our heart, but they could offend someone. We don’t want to cause someone discomfort for something as simple as a dirty shirt. Perhaps you think that’s being superficial? Paul didn’t. Here’s the idea expressed in terms of food.

Therefore, if food makes my brother stumble, I will never again eat meat, lest I make my brother stumble.

(1 Corinthians 8:13) NKJV

Are we ready to meet the Lord? Have we consciously thought about what we’re doing? If we look the same as we did 20 years ago when we got saved, is there any evidence that our walk with the Lord has gotten deeper or more intimate?
