Hypothesis 35

To Eber were born two sons: the name of the one was Peleg (for in his days the earth was divided), and his brotherโ€™s name was Joktan.

(1 Chronicles 1:19) ESV

The Pangaea super-continent was broken into continental landmasses sometime after the tower of Babel. People and fauna were dispersed to all corners of Pangaea and then the tectonic plates formed.

We were on a plane from England to the USA, over the mid-Atlantic ridge, when we read Genesis 10:25. That’s the Holy Spirit for you. If we ever had any question as to what the phrase “was the earth divided,” might mean, it was permanently erased by understanding it in its correct context. We (me and the Holy Spirit), sitting 40,000 feet above the mid-Atlantic ridge, figured the following:

Predictive Testable Hypothesis 35

  • IF The Bible is true,
    • AND Noah’s flood happened and it was world-wide,
  • THEN in order to account for the observed distribution of biological diversity:
    1. the Earth had to be one continental land mass, Pangaea, for a period of time after the flood,
    2. at some point after Babel, but presumably before Abraham (when the main narrative of the Bible begins), the Pangaea super-continent broke up.
  • THEREFORE there ought to be a reference to the tectonic breakup of Pangaea in the Bible, during this period of time (Genesis 10:25).

The theory of plate tectonics gives us a way to explain sea floor spreading like in the Atlantic Ocean. Separating people groups allowed them to diverge into their own unique races, languages and cultures. The flora and fauna had to adapt likewise.
