By Grace You Have Been Saved Through Faith

For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

(Ephesians 2:8-10) NKJV

Whatever you choose to believe about science is beside the point. There’s only two requirements for you to be saved and have everlasting life.

Salvation

  1. Call upon the name of Jesus Christ,
    • believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead,
  2. confess your sin.

They did not Receive the Love of Truth

The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

(2 Thessalonians 2:9-12) New King James Version

We’re in what the New Testament describes as the age of grace, the church age, or the end times. The truth about God the creator is still evident but Satan, the lawless one, has placed a strong delusion in front of everyone which is intended to cause people to reject the truth about God, and their salvation.

Whoever Would not Seek the Lord

Then they entered into a covenant to seek the Lord God of their fathers with all their heart and with all their soul; and whoever would not seek the Lord God of Israel was to be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman.

(2 Chronicles 15:12) NKJV

What happens when people don’t seek the Lord? In the Old Testament times of the children of Israel they would be put to death. In our modern age there’s nothing like that. You’re free to believe whatever you want.

Return With all Your Heart and Soul

yet when they come to themselves in the land where they were carried captive, and repent, and make supplication to You in the land of those who took them captive, saying, ‘We have sinned and done wrong, we have committed wickedness’; and when they return to You with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their enemies who led them away captive, and pray to You toward their land which You gave to their fathers, the city which You have chosen and the temple which I have built for Your name: then hear in heaven Your dwelling place their prayer and their supplication, and maintain their cause,

(1 Kings 8:47-49) NKJV

When we fall aside and loose our way we have a prescription for how to find it. Once again we have to acknowledge that God is who he claims to be, and do it with that part of our being which is truly us: our heart and soul.

Turn to the LORD With all Your Heart

Now before him there was no king like him, who turned to the Lord with all his heart, with all his soul, and with all his might, according to all the Law of Moses; nor after him did any arise like him.

(2 Kings 23:25) NKJV

This passage is about King Josiah, one of the most godly of the kings in the Old Testament. He was made king at age eight after his father’s disastrous 2-year reign.

Seek and You Will Find

Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.

(Matthew 7:7-8) ESV

There have been times in our life when we didn’t know what to do. Or perhaps we knew what to do but we didn’t know how to do it. Or maybe we knew what to do but we just didn’t want to do it.

Set Your Heart and Soul to Seek the Lord

Now set your heart and your soul to seek the Lord your God. Therefore arise and build the sanctuary of the Lord God, to bring the ark of the covenant of the Lord and the holy articles of God into the house that is to be built for the name of the Lord.”

(1 Chronicles 22:19) NKJV

Why are we here? Is there a reason why we exist? If there’s a reason, is there a purpose too? These are forms of what what we may euphemistically call the ultimate question to life, the universe and everything.

Heart and Soul

“Therefore you shall lay up these words of mine in your heart and in your soul, and bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.

(Deuteronomy 11:18) NKJV

The soul is one of three aspects of life, patterned after the three aspects of the Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We’ve established the distinction between soul and spirit, and we have working definitions of both.
