The Reason for Hell

A lot of people are troubled by the question, if God is loving why would he send people to hell? Making the case for why is quite involved and most people will simply tune out and decide that they don’t need a God like that. To their peril.

Hell is Darkness, Heaven is Light

He sings before men and says:
‘I sinned and perverted what was right,
and it was not repaid to me.
He has redeemed my soul from going down into the pit,
and my life shall look upon the light.’
“Behold, God does all these things,
twice, three times, with a man,
to bring back his soul from the pit,
that he may be lighted with the light of life.

Creation has a purpose which combines the spiritual goal of separating good from evil with the physics of separating light from darkness. It gives us a unified theory of everything within the broad narrative of scripture.

Direction of Motion

O LORD, thou hast brought up my soul from the grave: thou hast kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit.
(Psalms 30:3) KJV

The direction of motion is a clue that we’ve used to put all of the puzzle pieces together. In this case a soul was brought up from the grave so that it didn’t have to go down to the pit. We could induce a meaning to a passage, or we could compare it to our model and deduce that the pit is lower than the grave.

Hell is Below, Heaven is Above

Canst thou by searching find out God? canst thou find out the Almighty unto perfection? It is as high as heaven; what canst thou do? deeper than hell; what canst thou know?
(Job 11:7-8) KJV

Hell is down, deep and below; heaven is up, high and above. There are many examples in scripture which are consistent with this orientation. Hell is never referred to as above, heaven is never referred to as below.

The Mathematics of Hell

Everyone believes math because it’s, well, math. Math doesn’t lie, supposedly. Math may not lie but it can be used to tell a lie if that’s what you decide to use it for. Math is a tool, not a guide. It’s very helpful to bear this in mind:

Current Theories of Earth’s Internal Structure

For a fire is kindled in My anger, And shall burn to the lowest hell; It shall consume the earth with her increase, And set on fire the foundations of the mountains.

Let’s be clear: information on the interior of the Earth is scant. Current theories of Earth’s internal structure are crumbling as materials analysis opens up new and better data about what’s happening in the interior of the Earth. All current theories of the interior of the Earth are an induction of evidence to fit the premise that there’s no hell, but there’s nothing that can actually prove that hell isn’t there.

The Opposition to Hell

Most people don’t believe that hell is real. For most people it’s fallen through the cracks of mythology, which is odd because ocean water warming data shows that our oceans are warming from the bottom up.
