The Bottoms of the Mountains

I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars was about me for ever: yet hast thou brought up my life from corruption, O LORD my God.

(Jonah 2:6) KJV

Jonah wakes up in the underworld realm of the dead, sheol. From his vantage point he can see across a chasm of open space between the lower mantle, stretching out above him, and the surface of hell down below.

The Church Balcony

Canst thou by searching find out God? canst thou find out the Almighty unto perfection? It is as high as heaven; what canst thou do? deeper than hell; what canst thou know?

(Job 11:7-8) KJV

Can we by searching find out God? The clear implication is that no, we can’t, but there’s something important to remember whenever we contemplate passages from the book of Job: Who’s speaking?

Abraham and Job

“Look now at the behemoth, which I made along with you; He eats grass like an ox. See now, his strength is in his hips, And his power is in his stomach muscles. He moves his tail like a cedar; The sinews of his thighs are tightly knit.

(Job 40:15-17) NKJV

We can be certain that Job was a contemporary of Abraham. This means that when Job describes God overturning mountains, he’s recounting something that happened recently, about 200 or so years before him.

Scientists have found fossils of whales and other marine animals in mountain sediments in the Andes, indicating that the South American mountain chain rose very rapidly from the sea.

Elevation of Andes

Now it shall come to pass in the latter days That the mountain of the Lord’s house Shall be established on the top of the mountains, And shall be exalted above the hills; And all nations shall flow to it. Many people shall come and say, “Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, To the house of the God of Jacob; He will teach us His ways, And we shall walk in His paths.” For out of Zion shall go forth the law, And the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.

(Isaiah 2:2-3) NKJV

Elevation of the Andes and general continued uplift of continents” doesn’t sound like much, does it? We’re talking about the formation of the South American continent and the Pacific ocean. Nothing major.

Continental Uplifts and a Major Orogeny

To Eber were born two sons: the name of one was Peleg, for in his days the earth was divided; and his brother’s name was Joktan.

(Genesis 10:25) NKJV

How do we account for fossils when the fossils are older than the geographic features that they’re part of? “Marked world-wide continental uplifts and a major orogeny resulting in the rise of the Alps.“

Highest part: וְ֝רֹ֗אשׁ – rosh

before God made the earth and its fields
or even the first handful of soil.

(Proverbs 8:26) Good News Translation

While as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields, nor the highest part of the dust of the world.

(Proverbs 8:26) King James Version

IF Eden was at the top of a mountain that filled the whole Earth, and a river from Eden watered the surface of the whole land, THEN the concept of elevation will be found in the scriptural context.

August 25th

Pliocene

The multitude of camels shall cover thee, the dromedaries of Midian and Ephah; all they from Sheba shall come: they shall bring gold and incense; and they shall shew forth the praises of the LORD.

(Isaiah 60:6) KJV

Deposition and lithification of sediment (Noah’s flood), had to be before the formation of mountains composed of the sediment (Peleg’s tectonics).

My Holy Mountain

Is Pilot Mountain, North Carolina, one of the pillars of the Earth?

And they shall bring all your brethren for an offering unto the LORD out of all nations upon horses, and in chariots, and in litters, and upon mules, and upon swift beasts, to my holy mountain Jerusalem, saith the LORD, as the children of Israel bring an offering in a clean vessel into the house of the LORD. And I will also take of them for priests and for Levites, saith the LORD. For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the LORD, so shall your seed and your name remain. And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD.

(Isaiah 66:20-23) KJV

The mountain referred to by Old Testament prophets as “my holy mountain” is a reworking of the current land configuration as opposed to something completely new of extra-terrestrial origin.
