And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so. And God called the firmament Heaven. When the Lord said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters… he established the position of the heavens. Considering the passage: when he set a compass on the face of the depth: it’s completely logical to understand the heavens as a circle, or sphere, which has a fixed distance, or radius, from the center.
