And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
(Matthew 16:17-19) KJV
I have used part of this passage, verses 17-18, before as the basis for my post Who Wants to Attack Hell With Me? but today I want to focus on verse 19, about binding and loosing.
One of the reasons why is because in Matty’s Paradigm we believe that each human soul is a created instance of gravity. As such, the soul has the power to attract and repel. Have you ever wondered why some people are attracted to each other? Why we are attractive or attracted? Physical beauty is not the whole story. What about people who aren’t beautiful according to the standards set by the media? How is it that there are all kinds of different shapes and sizes of people and they all have as good a chance as anyone else as having a successful relationship.
One of my go-to books when I’m feeling sad, lonely, homesick or depressed is Douglas Adam’s The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. I picked it up again last week as a way of trying to re-energize my science fiction writing. I know, the irony is palpable, since most of the folk who I interact with on Twitter are convinced that ALL of my work is science fiction. I began reading and enjoyed it so much that before I knew it the group of travelers were together on the Heart of Gold spaceship. Chapter 14 begins with this paragraph:
The Heart of Gold fled on silently through the night of space, now on conventional photon drive. Its crew of four were ill at ease knowing that they had been brought together not of their own volition or by simple coincidence, but by some curious perversion of physics – as if relationships between people were susceptible to the same laws that governed the relationships between atoms and molecules.
– Douglas Adams, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy
This sent a shiver down my spine when I read it. Douglas Adams was regarded as a genius by pretty much anyone who is familiar with his work. He was widely regarded as an insightful and perceptive person. I’m not sure of the extent to which this paragraph was insight or just sheer luck, but it would appear that he was right.
The physics of relationships isn’t what I wanted to write about today. I want to mourn for the loss of someone who I never met, and, based on his lack of public testimony of faith in Jesus Christ, will never meet. I want to get very serious here. Hell is real. Hell is expanding. The expansion of hell is the cause of global warming. The only way that your soul is going to escape the horror of it being your destination, is if you are purified through faith in Jesus Christ. But maybe it’s not you, reader, who has anything to worry about. Maybe you, Christian, are born again through faith in Jesus Christ and will never see hell. What about your family? What about your friends? What about the random people that we have chance encounters with on a daily basis? What are you doing to warn them about the danger that their soul is in?
Don’t Panic. Do something.
Are relationships between people were susceptible to the same laws that govern the relationships between atoms and molecules?
