The war in heaven which led to Satan being banished to Earth isn’t some terrible mistake that happened. It’s the working out of God’s will with the eventual goal of a place where he dwells in perpetual light with his people.
The spiritual theme of light vs. darkness is inherent, but so is the reality of physics and they can be shown to be in perfect harmony. It’s the purpose of creation:
The purpose of creation is to bring about the permanent physical separation of light from darkness, day from night, good from evil.

The reason for creation is the manifestation of sentient life with free will.

These combine to gives us the twofold function of the Earth in the purpose of creation:
The function of the Earth has two parts: a) to provide a place for sentient beings to make a choice between light or darkness, good or evil; b) to serve as the collection point for all those who choose darkness and evil.
