Magnoliaceae, Lauraceae and Juglandaceae

“Angiosperms having affinities with Magnoliaceae, Lauraceae, Juglandaceae”. This may seem random but it’s nuanced evolution narrative, you just have to know something about the development of the Angiosperms.

Magnoliaceae (Magnolias), Lauraceae (Laurels), and Juglandaceae (Walnuts/Pecans) are families of canopy trees that are characteristic of a mixed mesophytic forest. It’s a habitat which got buried, not a period of time. The habitat community structure was based on the conditions of altitude and aspect like all other plant communities.

Floras having more in common with Upper Cretaceous than modern ones. Supposedly, and for reasons which are irrelevant, the Magnoliaceae etc. are primitive angiosperms. This means that, according to the evolution narrative, the sediments they’re buried in can be assigned to an older epoch than more advanced angiosperms. It’s fudge, since fossil assemblages are usually an assortment of species of various levels of advancement.

The thing about how the evolution narrative relates to the stratigraphic column is that the narrative drives the assignment, it has nothing to do with radiometric dating. There’s no sedimentary formation in which every period and epoch occurs, each fossil location is usually just a few layers simply because it’s a habitat which got buried. This means that there’s no direct way to relate the Cambrian to the Paleocene.

The Cambrian is ocean floor habitat, the Paleocene is tropical forest. Both were buried in Noah’s flood. The evolution narrative is used to give them their assignments in time. However, there’s no absolute timescale into which beds of strata are arranged using an empirical scale. It’s all relative, and the supposed level of advancement of dominant fossils in the deposit are used to place the sedimentary layer in the evolution narrative.

For those people who are convinced that radiometric dating has been used to develop an absolute scale of dates for the rocks in question, the experimental procedure is based on the assumption that nuclear decay has always been constant. This isn’t a testable hypothesis so therefore it’s unscientific. Radiometric dating is pseudoscience. Deal with it.
