This is a faithful saying, and these things I want you to affirm constantly, that those who have believed in God should be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable to men. But avoid foolish disputes, genealogies, contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and useless.
(Titus 3:8-9) NKJV
Is Intelligent Design an intelligent choice? The short answer: NO
But let’s take a step back and see if we can parse this in a way which will be the most benefit to as many people as possible.
We, as in, me and the Holy Spirit, have come a long way in understanding what we’re doing, why we’re doing it, and the potential impact that it could have. We’ve also discovered a better way to understand why people disagree and why it’s important that we don’t make the disagreements become our primary focus.
Focus on Salvation
For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
(Ephesians 2:8-10) NKJV
The most important thing to remember is that salvation is a gift of grace through faith in Jesus Christ. The bottom line is: this is all that really matters. This is the reason why Christians are admonished not to engage in messy public disputes. There’s no reason for them. Two people may disagree on the age of the Earth but if they’re both Christians there’s no reason to argue about it.
They are Without Excuse
For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.
(Romans 1:20) ESV
And then there’s the context in which we find ourselves. God has declared his true nature to us through the manifold glories of creation. The truth about God is so obvious that no one has an excuse.
However, everyone has been given free will so that they can choose whether or not they want to believe God. This means that there has to be a plausible alternative to the truth which is available to everyone. This is why we have popular science (SciPop). It fulfills the roles that are required for a strong delusion and a lie.
Strong Delusion
And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
(2 Thessalonians 2:11-12) KJV
If we want to be technical we could say that the strong delusion is the scientific method (philosophy) which causes us to believe the lie of godless existence (narrative). The end result of this is the popular science narrative of godless existence (SciPop) which is what the Bible refers to as “what which is falsely called knowledge“.
Pseudoscience
O Timothy! Guard what was committed to your trust, avoiding the profane and idle babblings and contradictions of what is falsely called knowledgeโ by professing it some have strayed concerning the faith.
(1 Timothy 6:20-21) NKJV
SciPop, the pseudoscientific narrative of godless existence, is the dominant paradigm. We can’t fault anyone for believing it because it’s the strong delusion which was sent from God as an alternative to the truth. It’s for everyone who doesn’t want to believe the truth.
So what’s Intelligent Design? It’s an attempt to adapt the Bible to fit the lie. There’s no reason to do that. Why would we try to make the truth compatible with the lie?
