Stinking in the Sight of Pharaoh

They met Moses and Aaron, who were waiting for them, as they came out from Pharaoh; and they said to them, “The Lord look on you and judge, because you have made us stink in the sight of Pharaoh and his servants, and have put a sword in their hand to kill us.”

(Exodus 5:20-21) ESV

Bible study is our meat and potatoes at Matty’s Paradigm, it’s what we do. Daily Bible reading is also really important and many of our insights have come from simply following a routine.

Listening to preaching is absolutely critical, either online or in person according to the circumstances in our COVID-19 reality. Pastor Caleb Duvic at Two Cities Church in Winston-Salem, NC, gives an illustration of the type of reaction that we experience a lot of: Christians who don’t want to be delivered from slavery, and who get upset when you tell them that they’re in it.

In the passage the children of Israel want to be set free from their bondage until they realize that this will make Pharaoh angry. They don’t want Pharaoh to be angry so instead they try to run off Moses and Aaron. There’s a parallel today with the insanity surrounding Donald Trump. Somehow we got into a situation where Christianity in the United States seems to think that it’s dependent on a demonic spirit masquerading as a washed up billionaire playboy reprobate. You’d think that they’d be glad to be set free, but they’re scared of making the Donald angry. They’re signing up for more.

We all have the same evidence. Our choice of paradigm determines what we think it’s evidence of.

Matty’s Razor

There’s a much more sinister parallel than that. Your slavery is intellectual and the Pharaoh who’s oppressing you is popular science (SciPop). You’ve been told that you have to understand the Bible within a scientific paradigm which has been designed to make the Bible look stupid. We (that’s me and the Holy spirit) are here to destroy the SciPop paradigm and set you free.

However… we find that most Christians are perfectly happy to be enslaved. They’re horrified at the prospect that the Bible might actually be true. Especially of having to believe a Geocentrospheric cosmology even though it resolves a unified field theory with the plan of redemption and the fulfillment of prophecy. Let’s face it, telling people that you believe the Geocentrospheric cosmology of the Bible is going to make you look stupid, right? Then people won’t like you, they might even avoid you, and you don’t want that to happen.

The thing to remember is that salvation is through faith in Jesus Christ. Whatever you believe beyond that is what you figure out over time through your walk of faith. What you brought with you when you got saved is immaterial. Do not worry, Geocentrospheric cosmology is empirical. Peace be with you.

Salvation is through faith in Jesus Christ, what you believe beyond that is what you figure out over time. Peace be with you.
