In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
(1 Corinthians 15:52) KJV
The word translated caught up in 1 Thessalonians 4:17 is ἁρπαγησόμεθα – harpagēsometha. Correct us if we’re wrong but this doesn’t look remotely like the word rapture. This event is in 1 Corinthians 15:52 where we have a word which does resemble rapture:
Twinkling: ῥιπῇ – rhipé (rapture)
- any rapid movement, a twinkling (of lights or the eye)
- a glance, twinkle or flash of the eye;
- a rush of wind or flame;
- any rapid movement.
- used by the Greek poets from Homer down;
- a throw, stroke, beat:
- a moment of time,
Rhipe and rapture are similar enough to suppose that one begat the other, the problem is that, even though the context is correct, the meaning isn’t the same. Rapture refers to how we will be changed, transformed, in the twinkling of an eye. It has nothing to do with being “caught up.”
