The Lake of Fire

But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.

(Revelation 21:8) NKJV

An issue regarding the establishment of the Millennial Kingdom which we have to resolve is: What and where is the lake of fire? It may be the planet Venus.

The Big Picture

From the beginning I predicted the outcome;
long ago I foretold what would happen.
I said that my plans would never fail,
that I would do everything I intended to do.

(Isaiah 46:10) Good News Translation

We can parse the difference between hell and the lake of fire because we’ve laid out the broad narrative of scripture, the conceptual backbone of the Bible, a theme which weaves together the law, prophets and the gospel.

The Foundations of the Earth in Hebrew

a drawing compass and the creation of gravity on the second day

Mine hand also hath laid the foundation of the earth, and my right hand hath spanned the heavens: when I call unto them, they stand up together.

(Isaiah 48:13) KJV

The way we find all of the meaning which is contained in the phrase the foundations of the earth is to systematically examine all of the different Hebrew word combinations which have been translated this way.

This Place of Torment

“Then he said, ‘I beg you therefore, father, that you would send him to my father’s house, for I have five brothers, that he may testify to them, lest they also come to this place of torment.’ Abraham said to him, ‘They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.’ And he said, ‘No, father Abraham; but if one goes to them from the dead, they will repent.’

(Luke 16:27-30) NKJV

We’ve reached the end of our trail of deduction for today, and the only conclusion which we can reach is that the rich man is in the molten core of the Earth, the pit. Abraham and Lazarus are in the lower mantle, the midst of hell.

The Physics of Hell

(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

(2 Corinthians 10:4-5) KJV

The popular science (SciPop) rationalization for the liquid outer core is an ephemeral strand of wispy logic. It predates Stephen Hawking but it’s an example of the Hawking Effect. All it has to do is sound plausible.

Great Gulf or Outer Core?

Cutaway of planet earth showing hell at the center

The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

(2 Thessalonians 2:9-12) New King James Version

Why does Jesus describe a great gulf of open space while popular science (SciPop) has a liquid outer core? It’s a strong delusion so that you’ll believe a lie. The lie is: you don’t need a savior, there’s nothing to be saved from.

A Great Gulf

But Abraham said, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted and you are tormented. And besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, so that those who want to pass from here to you cannot, nor can those from there pass to us.’

(Luke 16:25-26) NKJV

We’re at a great advantage over the spaghetti theologians because we’ve deduced how the passage from Luke resolves with a physical reality. We don’t regard any part of this parable as being metaphorical or allegorical.

In Hades he Looked Up

And being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.

“Then he cried and said, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.’

(Luke 16:23-24) NKJV

The rich man, in hell, lifts up his eyes and speaks of his torment in flame. Here’s the thing: Abraham and Lazarus are also in hell, but they’re not in flame. This may be confusing, but it’s compatible with our model.
