Matty’s Razor

For I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it, but I received it through a revelation of Jesus Christ.
(Galatians 1:12) ESV

The idea that evidence is neutral and we all have access to it is known as Matty’s Razor. Evidence doesn’t lead to a conclusion, it just is. How we interpret evidence is determined by what we believe. It’s called cognitive bias.

I Don’t Need Proof

Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.
(John 6:29) KJV

We’re frequently challenged to prove the existence of God, but there’s two reasons why it’s not necessary to:

We don’t need proof because we have faith,
Proof of God won’t do you any good, God requires faith.

You Need Faith not Sight

Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.
(John 20:29) KJV

Having proof of God would serve no purpose and, in fact, it would be counter-productive. If you want to choose God and escape the destruction that’s coming, then this is what you need to know: faith is needed, not sight.

Proof of God Won’t Help You

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them.
(Romans 1:18-19) ESV

On one hand, the Bible says that the truth about God is known to everyone, no one has an excuse to not believe. On the other hand, God doesn’t have to personally intervene in our lives to prove himself to us.

The New Scientific Knowledge

O Timothy! Guard what was committed to your trust, avoiding the profane and idle babblings and contradictions of what is falsely called knowledge—by professing it some have strayed concerning the faith. Grace be with you. Amen.

Knowledge and facts are things which ought to be true regardless of what we believe about God or the origin of the universe. Therefore, something which is only true in the popular science paradigm (SciPop) isn’t knowledge.

Faith = Evidence

For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for? But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.
(Romans 8:24-25) KJV

You don’t need to have faith in something if you can see it. Faith is only necessary when we can’t see. However, that doesn’t mean that we don’t have evidence. As such, faith is believing in what you can’t see because of evidence.

Current popular science (SciPop) propaganda is that “faith is belief without evidence.” However we all have the same evidence (Matty’s razor) so the meme fails as a definition of faith.

The High Price of Epistemological Buffoonery

Threatening people with hell isn’t an effective communication technique. You’ll be dismissed as a kook. The problem is, despite the fact that popular science (SciPop) appears to have a compelling rationale for why hell isn’t at the center of the Earth, it’s very easy to demonstrate the weaknesses of this rationale.

Primary or Secondary?

Hitchens’s razor is based on assuming that secondary sources of evidence, vetted and approved by Peer Review to be compliant with the popular science paradigm (SciPop), are primary sources of evidence.
