The simple explanation for the phrase Abraham’s bosom is that Abraham was giving Lazarus a hug, however there’s precedent to use it to refer to a physical location.

Jonah wakes up in the underworld realm of the dead, sheol. From his vantage point he can see across a chasm of open space between the lower mantle, stretching out above him, and the surface of hell down below.

When Jonah was cast into the sea he drowned. The next thing he was aware of was being in hell, sheol, the underworld realm of the dead. There’s more here than meets the eye.

And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence. Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.

Seismological data shows different zones of density within the Earth which match the description of Earth’s interior given us by Jesus in Luke 16:19-31, the parable of the rich man and Lazarus.

The deep and the great deep are both translated from the same Hebrew word, tehom. The difference signifies a transition from the deep where Earth was created to when the great deep is in the interior of the Earth.

We’ve found that the previous theory about the internal structure of Earth was induced, but no body knew any better so it was OK. We were in a state of blissful ignorance, assuming that ignorance was knowledge.

Jesus describes the internal structure of the Earth in the parable of the rich man and Lazarus. We use this passage to understand that sheol includes a chamber in the lower mantle which overlooks hell.
