Many people have struggled with interpreting creation of the firmament. There’s no reason to struggle if you allow yourself to be open to the possibilities. It’s a key to unlocking the theory of Biblical quantum gravitation (BQG).
The simple definition is “expanse,” so most translations render the meaning as “the expanse of the sky.” However, to be in keeping with totality of scripture, and to account for other references to a sea of glass and a paved crystalline structure, the expanse has to be an horizontal, something like a thin metal sheet.
