Purpose and Reason

Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,

(2 Timothy 1:9) KJV

Our devotional is called WHY? Why did God create the universe? In the process of answering this question we have deduced that creation has a purpose:

The purpose of creation is to bring about the permanent physical separation of light from darkness, day from night, good from evil.

– The Purpose of Creation

We’ve also discovered that there is a reason for this purpose:

The reason for creation is the manifestation of sentient life with free will.

– The Reason for Creation

God wanted sentient beings with free will in a universe where light and darkness were opposing forces which were being physically separated forever. When we combine the purpose and the reason we can have an answer to life, the universe and everything.

Why did God create the universe?
The answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe and everything:

God created the universe so that sentient beings with free will could make a choice between light or darkness, life or death.

The Answer to Life, the Universe and Everything

The question which got us started was, why were the light and darkness mixed together in the first place?

July 4th – It Was Very Good

The fall of man and the corrupted state of creation aren’t the same thing. The universe had to be created in a corrupted state so that the fall of man could take place.
