There was a time when we stopped using the phrase cluelessness event horizon because we thought that it was needlessly judgmental. Sadly, it serves such an essential function that it’s here to stay.
There are people claiming to be scientists who don’t recognize ESTABLISHED SCIENCE when they see it. We regularly post the featured image on Twitter, this is one of the responses:

- Troll: What seismological data are you looking at?
- Matty: The same seismological data that has been in every Earth Science textbook for at least the last 30 years.
- Troll: Which text books? Just type outer core into google scholar and pick a paper that says its empty space
- Matty: You just missed the point.
- Troll: I am just asking you to provide anything that will back up your claim
- Matty: This seismological data… If you had ever actually looked at an Earth Science textbook you would be familiar with it.
- Troll: That’s not data, that’s a picture with some labels on it, a bible passage, and a blog link
At that the point it’s already clear that troll is beyond the cluelessness event horizon. The data in the image are the locations of seismic wave detections at 104° and 140° which are the boundaries of the P-wave shadow zone.
The shadow zone is the area of the earth from angular distances of 104 to 140 degrees from a given earthquake that does not receive any direct P waves. The shadow zone results from S waves being stopped entirely by the liquid core and P waves being bent (refracted) by the liquid core.

- Matty: This is established science. This is what we think the internal structure of the earth is based on seismological data. Obviously you don’t recognize it. Why then do you act like you know anything at all?
- Troll: You have to establish it.
- Matty: I shouldn’t have to establish it. You are pretending to know what you are talking about. If you knew what you were talking about you would know that this is established science.
There is absolutely no purpose continuing a conversation like this.
