Some would answer NO, you can’t be redeemed and be gay. We Christians are botching our outreach to the LGBTQIA+ community so badly that many people think that we’re mean, hateful people.
We think that we’re maintaining “standards” as they apply to Christian life and conduct. Unfortunately we’re doing what Peter warned us not to do. Peter gave advice on how the church can exist within an otherwise corrupt and evil society yet maintain its freedom and independence to be able to worship the Lord. We do this by obeying all laws. That would include anti-discrimination and employment laws established by the EEOC.
On one hand It’s illegal to discriminate against anyone who’s in one of the protected classes which includes anyone identifying as LGBTQIA+. On the other hand the LGBTQIA+ lifestyle isn’t illegal and is acceptable in mainstream society. For the Lord’s sake we have to avoid discriminating against anyone so that broader society will continue to tolerate the church and we can continue our mission.
The scenario we see unfolding is that Evangelical leaders are using their liberty as a cloke of maliciousness and perpetuating hate against members of a protected class. Whether or not they realize it they’ve jumped straight into the trap that Satan has set to ensnare and eliminate the church. This is exactly what Peter told us not to do.
