He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,
(Hebrews 1:3) ESV
The Son of God, through whom all things were made, not only made creation possible but his ongoing role throughout history has been to purge it of all impurity and corruption.
Not surprisingly then, salvation through faith in Jesus Christ and our ongoing life as Christians is frequently referred to as cleansing or purification.
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
(1 John 1:9) ESV
After making purification for sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness tie together the broad narrative of scripture, of purging, refining and purification the agent of which is the Lord Jesus Christ, with the chemical properties of Hydroxyl, a cleaning agent.
If salvation is the beginning of the process of cleansing, refinement and purification, and this is physically embodied by the chemical properties of Hydroxyl (OH), what kind of compounds in common use contain OH?
This Bible refers to several different cleaning compounds in the context of our sinful nature. They all depend on Hydroxyl for their effectiveness. The point of the featured passage is to say that soap isn’t enough to purge our sins, but the context is clearly that soap is used for cleaning. If you wanted to be clean you would find some soap.

January 11 – Hydroxyl (OH–)
The chemical properties of OH– must be a manifestation of the purpose for which God the Son was begotten.
