Dream and Coincidence

And he went into all the region around the Jordan, proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.

(Luke 3:3) ESV

We had a dream this morning. In it we saw a beautiful new house. We knew whose house it was, but you don’t need to know that. It sat on the left of a coastal bay which swept around to the right.

Dream

The arc of the shore was marked by a smoothly curving road which had a guard rail between it and the waters edge. The house was on a small promontory on the seaward side of the guard rail, which jutted out a little way into the bay, and there were a dozen or so tall trees, mostly pines, between the house and the water.

One of the trees was being cut down. Then we decided to cut one of the other trees down to open up the view of the ocean from the house. As we stood back to decide which tree to cut down next an enormous wave gathered itself up on the right side of the bay and swept over the house washing it away.

We know what this means, but you don’t have to. We’re just writing about it today so that next year on this day we’ll be able to look back on it and see if anything has changed. Is the house still standing?

Coincidence?

Today’s subject matter gets us into the reason for the popular science narrative of godless existence (SciPop). What’s it for? The simple answer is that it’s a strong delusion given so that people can believe the lie that there’s no God. Part of the reason why we want a rigorous scientific sounding alternative to God is to help us deal with guilt. We all have guilt, but if God doesn’t exist and there’s no morality then we ought to be able to ignore it and it’ll go away. Except that it doesn’t work.

Our writing process has developed to the point where each sub-heading in a post has to become its own post because we tend to write about the same thing in several different places and it’s become important to collect up all of these loose strands and weave them together into coherent pieces. We spend quite a bit of time researching our own work to find all of the loose strands.

Our post a logical antidote to guilt required us to search on “guilt free” and “guilt-free” to find all of the places where we addressed the issue, and while reviewing these posts we found the post repenting is free. Here we found a sermon outline based on Luke 3:3. This passage is about John the baptist who, in Jesus’ words, was the coming of Elijah, the herald of the return of the King.

And the disciples asked him, “Then why do the scribes say that first Elijah must come?” He answered, “Elijah does come, and he will restore all things. But I tell you that Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him, but did to him whatever they pleased. So also the Son of Man will certainly suffer at their hands.” Then the disciples understood that he was speaking to them of John the Baptist.

(Matthew 17:10-13) ESV

John the baptist is also known as the voice of one crying in the wilderness.

In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” For this is he who was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah when he said,

“The voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord;
make his paths straight.’”

(Matthew 3:1-3) ESV

We’re also a voice of one in this generation speaking out with the message that science and the Bible are in perfect harmony, and get ready for the return of the King. Christians need to be prepared to endure six of the seven bowls of wrath which will be poured out onto the Earth during the tribulation.

Here’s the coincidence: the post repenting is free didn’t have an image so we opened up our media library, which is getting quite large, and typed in “jordan” figuring that we probably had a picture of the river Jordan in there. What came up was an image of a google map of Jordan lake, where we lived in the woods for six months in 2,000 at the time when we were just beginning to learn Biblical Hebrew so that we could write this book.
