The Circle of the Earth

It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:

(Isaiah 40:22) KJV

If we use deduction then we can look at the simple fact that Earth is a globe, and conclude that the meaning of the word circle in Isaiah 40:22 is sphere. In this case the Hebrew word translated as circle also means sphere.

Circle, sphere: ח֣וּג – chug

  • to draw a circle, to circumscribe, Job 26:10.
    • masc. circle, sphere,
    • fem. compass, compasses, Is 44:13.

Davidson Analytical Hebrew and Chaldee Lexicon page CCXLIX

Not only that, but it refers to the circle of the Earth as the place where God sits. God’s throne is in heaven, the firmament, referred to in places as a sea of glass. This passage is referring to the orbit of the Earth, not the Earth itself.

March 12th – The Ends of the Earth

The phrase “the ends of the earth” refers to the coast. It’s what the ancients called the beach.
