And the waters prevailed on the earth one hundred and fifty days.
(Genesis 7:24) NKJV
“Continued inundation of low-lying continents?” sounds like a world-wide flood. In fact, it’s a way of saying world-wide flood without using the words “world-wide flood.”
The Mississippian is an ecosystem, not a period of time. However, Noah’s flood was a process by which billions of tons of sediment were moved around the world and deposited as the flood waters fell, inundated the Earth, then subsided. These phases give us the reason for why the stratigraphic column is divided into Paleozoic, Mesozoic and Cenozoic.
Noah’s flood began in the in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month. Noah left the ark and ventured out onto dry land in the second month, on the twenty-seventh day of the month. One year and ten days.
We can clearly see stages of the flood as we transition from deluge to inundation, and then to subsidence of the waters. By a totally staggering coincidence, this matches up perfectly with clearly different parts of the stratigraphic column which have been designated as different eras in the popular science narrative of godless existence (SciPop).
The Paleozoic/Mesozoic boundary is there because “Mesozoic” deposits are very different from what comes before them in the narrative. The earlier periods, Silurian and Devonian (Paleozoic) are sediments which contain the destroyed remains of ecosystems which have been transported from their original location, sometimes on land, into a basin of deposition, which could be in the ocean.
In contrast Carboniferous deposits (Mississippian and Pennsylvanian) are sediments which preserve an ecosystem that was buried in its original location. In this sense, just as the Cambrian was basal to the Paleozoic because it was the floor of the ocean where the sediment got dumped, the Carboniferous is basal to the Mesozoic because it was the ground where the sediment got dumped.
