Foundations in Context

Of old You laid the foundation of the earth, And the heavens are the work of Your hands.
(Psalms 102:25) NKJV

Broadly speaking there are three contexts in which “foundation(s) of the Earth/world” are the scriptural basis for how we can understand three important concepts in our unified theory of everything.

Deducing the Presence of the Firmament

And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever. (Daniel 12:3)

For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known.
(1 Corinthians 13:12) NKJV

We can use Principle VI to deduce the nature of stars from current scientific research and what we know about the firmament, a rigid sphere made up of at least 12 layers of different crystal structures.

Theoretical Evidence of the Firmament

Hast thou with him spread out the sky, which is strong, and as a molten looking glass?
(Job 37:18) KJV

Current cosmological models of the universe appear to show that 80% of the mass of the universe is missing. There’s no physical reason why the cosmos maintains its current stable state.

Empirical Evidence of the Firmament

The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.
(Psalms 19:1) KJV

Let’s look at empirical evidence of the firmament. That means direct observation. The most recent confirmation that we have of the presence of the firmament is from the New Horizons space mission.

A Theory of Time

And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed.
(Romans 13:11) NKJV

The universe may be 13.8 billion years old while the Earth is 6,000 or so years old SIMULTANEOUSLY. If there’s good science which shows that the material in the universe is really that old, our theory can accommodate it.

Spiritual Separation

Therefore “Come out from among them And be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, And I will receive you.”
(2 Corinthians 6:17) NKJV

Separation is a scriptural doctrine which is generally thought of in terms of Christians holding themselves apart from the rest of the world and avoiding worldly distraction which can lead us into sin. There’s more to it than that.

Compass: Focus and Circumference

When he established the heavens, I was there; when he drew a circle on the face of the deep,
(Proverbs 8:27) ESV

The third clue that helps us to deduce the creation of gravity comes from a verse in Proverbs 8. It’s part of a passage which runs from verse 22-31 and is a synopsis of the account of creation.

Orientation Under and Above

And God said, “Let there be an expanse in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters.” And God made the expanse and separated the waters that were under the expanse from the waters that were above the expanse. And it was so. And God called the expanse Heaven. And there was evening and there was morning, the second day.
(Genesis 1:6-8) ESV

The second clue to deducing the creation of gravity is from Genesis 1:6-8. Now for the first time creation has an orientation. This theme continues throughout scripture. Under and above are synonyms for up and down.

Deducing Gravity

Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth?
Tell me, if you have understanding.
Who determined its measurements—surely you know!
Or who stretched the line upon it?
On what were its bases sunk,
or who laid its cornerstone,
when the morning stars sang together
and all the sons of God shouted for joy?
(Job 38:4-7) ESV

We use the change from formless to formed, the appearance of the orientation under and above, and the analogy of a drawing compass having a focus and circumference to deduce that gravity was created on the second day.

Formless > Formed

The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.
(Genesis 1:2) ESV

In the beginning the deep was formless. The subsequent account of creation shows how form and function go through several rounds of increasing order and complexity. The first was to take on the form of a sphere.
