Is there any Biblical basis to support the possibility that billions of tons of sediment could fall out of the sky? Why yes, there is. There are several passages which describe rocks falling from the skies.

Brachiopods

Thus saith the LORD of hosts, Behold, evil shall go forth from nation to nation, and a great whirlwind shall be raised up from the coasts of the earth.

(Jeremiah 25:32) KJV

Brachiopods aren’t an evolutionary dead-end which got wiped out in a mass extinction. Well, there was a mass extinction, but it didn’t wipe out the Brachiopods.

Mild Climates

And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.

Descriptions of geological periods usually start with a statement on climate. It’s a subtle way to pay homage to the fact that a vast amount of water moved a vast amount of sediment.

First Vertebrates and a Great Variety of Marine Invertebrates

Then God said, “Let the waters abound with an abundance of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the face of the firmament of the heavens.”

In Noah’s flood the sea floor was buried first, that’s called the Cambrian. The things which were swimming just above the sea floor got buried next, that’s called the Ordovician.

Antediluvian Global Warming

For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment; And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;

(2 Peter 2:4-5) KJV

Noah spent about 100 years building the ark. He preached to the people of his day to warn them about the impending flood. He thought that he was building the ark to save people. They thought that he was off his rocker.
