Prepare Your Heart

I, the Lord, search the heart, I test the mind, Even to give every man according to his ways, According to the fruit of his doings.

(Jeremiah 17:10) NKJV

Preparing our hearts doesn’t involve special diets or exercise, it comes down to taking two simple steps: believing in Jesus Christ, and confessing our sins. The sanctification we receive from faith in Jesus makes us a holy vessel in which the Holy Spirit takes up residence. We’re indwelt by the Spirit of God.

A Pure Heart

3D wire frame illuminated heart

Blessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see God.

(Matthew 5:8) NKJV

God will be seen by those who have a pure heart. So how do we make our heart pure? By seeking God. It’s another example of how understanding the correct relationship between cause and effect is rather important.

Out of the Heart

For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies.

(Matthew 15:19) NKJV

Jesus was asked why he didn’t stop his disciples from eating before they had washed their hands. He was very direct in pointing out that we’re not defiled by what we put into our mouths, even if our hands are dirty. We’re defiled by what comes out of our mouths, and that starts in the corruption of our heart.

Heart Condition

The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it?

(Jeremiah 17:9) NKJV

Heart condition may be substantially more complicated than whether we smoke, our cholesterol levels, or any of the related medical factors which are involved. It would appear that the condition of our heart is directly related to condition of our relationship with God.

Spiritual Possession

And that very hour He cured many of infirmities, afflictions, and evil spirits; and to many blind He gave sight.

(Luke 7:21) NKJV

We can be possessed by evil spirits. We’ve deduced that spirits are vapor, so it’s simply a matter of breathing it in.

  • If a spirit is a vapor which, when inhaled, can affect our personality,
    • and there are evil spirits,
  • then an evil spirit can enter our body and affect our heart.

Into the Heart

And supper being ended, the devil having already put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray Him, Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come from God and was going to God, rose from supper and laid aside His garments, took a towel and girded Himself.

(John 13:2-4) NKJV

The soul is one aspect of life. The Spirit is another.

The Spirit is a vapor, for example Oxygen, which binds with the hemoglobin molecule in red blood cells to animate a body through metabolic processes. The spirit/body entity serves as the host or tabernacle for a soul.

Return With all Your Heart and Soul

yet when they come to themselves in the land where they were carried captive, and repent, and make supplication to You in the land of those who took them captive, saying, ‘We have sinned and done wrong, we have committed wickedness’; and when they return to You with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their enemies who led them away captive, and pray to You toward their land which You gave to their fathers, the city which You have chosen and the temple which I have built for Your name: then hear in heaven Your dwelling place their prayer and their supplication, and maintain their cause,

(1 Kings 8:47-49) NKJV

When we fall aside and loose our way we have a prescription for how to find it. Once again we have to acknowledge that God is who he claims to be, and do it with that part of our being which is truly us: our heart and soul.

Set Your Heart and Soul to Seek the Lord

Now set your heart and your soul to seek the Lord your God. Therefore arise and build the sanctuary of the Lord God, to bring the ark of the covenant of the Lord and the holy articles of God into the house that is to be built for the name of the Lord.”

(1 Chronicles 22:19) NKJV

Why are we here? Is there a reason why we exist? If there’s a reason, is there a purpose too? These are forms of what what we may euphemistically call the ultimate question to life, the universe and everything.

Written on Our Hearts

For when Gentiles, who do not have the law, by nature do what the law requires, they are a law to themselves, even though they do not have the law. They show that the work of the law is written on their hearts, while their conscience also bears witness, and their conflicting thoughts accuse or even excuse them

(Romans 2:14-15) ESV

The Bible tells us that the truth about God has been made known to us all. It also tells us that the moral law of God has been written on our hearts. When we consider the events of the first day, up to and including the development of cellular life with replicating DNA, it’s not too far fetched to propose that the word of God was encoded on that day.

We are Without Excuse

For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.

(Romans 1:20) ESV

The beauty of nature is proof of God. We know right from wrong. Disbelief is active, not passive, it’s not the default state. Popular science (SciPop) is an attempt to account for human existence in such a way that it appears God isn’t necessary.
