Popular Science is Axiomatically Wrong

Neil Degrasse Tyson posing beside an statement with flawed logic

October 5

Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and four-footed beasts, and creeping things.

(Romans 1:19-23) KJV

The popular science paradigm (SciPop) wasn’t deduced from axioms, its axioms were induced by accepting the premise of the paradigm. SciPop axioms aren’t axiomatic.

Epistemology

When pride comes, then comes shame; But with the humble is wisdom.

(Proverbs 11:2) NKJV

The intellectual tragedy of our generation is a failure to understand what evidence is and how it’s used, and the resulting misconception about what constitutes knowledge. The theory of knowledge is called epistemology.

Scientific Facts

You shall have just balances, just weights, a just ephah, and a just hin: I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt.

(Leviticus 19:36) ESV

Popular science (SciPop) is an inductive rationalization of the the premise that the universe has no divine or supernatural cause. Unfortunately the universe has a divine, supernatural cause.

Matty’s Razor

July 25

For I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it, but I received it through a revelation of Jesus Christ.

(Galatians 1:12) ESV

Evidence doesn’t lead to a conclusion, it just is. The idea that evidence is neutral and we all have access to it is known as Matty’s razor. We interpret evidence in a way that fits what we believe.

Truth

So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

(John 8:31-32) KJV

Truth isn’t falsifiable so, technically, there’s no hypothesis for it. What if it isn’t testable either? That means it’s unscientific. And yet it’s still the truth. We’re watching a philosophical train wreck in slow-motion.

Science

And the king spake unto Ashpenaz the master of his eunuchs, that he should bring certain of the children of Israel, and of the king’s seed, and of the princes; Children in whom was no blemish, but well favoured, and skilful in all wisdom, and cunning in knowledge, and understanding science, and such as had ability in them to stand in the king’s palace, and whom they might teach the learning and the tongue of the Chaldeans.

(Daniel 1:3-4) KJV

What is science? The word is used to refer to beneficial technology like the iPhone but also to a pseudoscientific narrative of godless existence. The word, as used, refers to a mixture of truth and error.

Science vs. Faith

The science vs. faith debate is smoke and mirrors because the words “science” and “faith” are poorly understood. The problem is that the words, as used, have definitions which don’t fit the usage.

What is a Fact?

Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts. For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little:

(Isaiah 28:9-10) KJV

Someone made the charge that we’re denying science. It looked like the knee-jerk reaction of someone with a progressive agenda, a scientifically illiterate science worshiper (SISW). We attempted to explain two things:
