And the king spake unto Ashpenaz the master of his eunuchs, that he should bring certain of the children of Israel, and of the king’s seed, and of the princes; Children in whom was no blemish, but well favoured, and skilful in all wisdom, and cunning in knowledge, and understanding science, and such as had ability in them to stand in the king’s palace, and whom they might teach the learning and the tongue of the Chaldeans.

(Daniel 1:3-4) KJV

What is science? The word is used to refer to beneficial technology like the iPhone but also to a pseudoscientific narrative of godless existence. The word, as used, refers to a mixture of truth and error.

This is rather unfortunate because most people are under the impression that science is true, factual and reliable. Here’s a possible definition of science that most people probably have a grasp of.

We all have the same evidence. Our choice of paradigm determines what we think it’s evidence of.

Matty’s Razor

Science : the state of knowing: knowledge as distinguished from ignorance or misunderstanding.

– Science, definition (supposed)

Here’s a more detailed definition which really hones in on the idea that science is an established body of facts.

Science is a branch of knowledge or study dealing with a body of facts or truths systematically arranged and showing the operation of general laws: the mathematical sciences, systematic knowledge of the physical or material world gained through observation and experimentation, any of the branches of natural or physical science.

– Science, definition (

If science is supposed to be a body of facts, we better be sure that we know what a fact is.

A fact is a : something that has actual existence, b : an actual occurrence.

– Fact, definition (Merriam-Webster)

However, a fact can only be a fact if it’s true regardless of what you believe about science, God or the Bible. For example: everyone believes that matter is made out of atoms. It doesn’t make any difference what your religious affiliation may be, matter is made out of atoms. It’s a fact. In contrast, not everyone believes in the evolutionary origin of humanity. This has a direct bearing on whether or not you believe that the universe has a divine cause. As such, the evolutionary origin of humanity isn’t a fact. This is why it’s necessary to make a distinction between the true science in technology and the pseudoscience in false narratives.

Faith is believing in something that you can’t see, because of evidence.

– Faith, definition

O Timothy, guard the deposit entrusted to you. Avoid the irreverent babble and contradictions of what is falsely called “knowledge,”

(1 Timothy 6:20) ESV

God knew perfectly well that false knowledge would masquerade as truth, and in fact this is part of His plan. We’ve been given free will so that we can choose what we believe about God, and so there has to be a plausible alternative to the self-evident truth. This is known as the strong delusion.

The coming of the lawless one is by the activity of Satan with all power and false signs and wonders, and with all wicked deception for those who are perishing, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. Therefore God sends them a strong delusion, so that they may believe what is false, in order that all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

(2 Thessalonians 2:9-12) ESV

We’re going to retain the use of the word science to refer to facts, because we have a Biblical precedent to do so. However, no one should be surprised that there’s a false narrative of godless existence going by the name of science. We call it popular science (SciPop). It’s a belief system.

Belief is Paradigm-dependent

  • IF there are things which we all believe which transcend paradigm (facts, knowledge),
    • but our choice of paradigm causes us to have different opinions (belief),
  • THEN beliefs are paradigm-dependent,
    • and anything which is only true in one paradigm isn’t knowledge or factual.
