Radial Shrinkage and the Pillars of the Earth

From the beginning I predicted the outcome;

I had a tweet that asked the question: Why is the interior of the Earth hot? This started a conversation that revealed what we really know about the interior of the Earth. It started like this:

Scientifically Illiterate Science Worshipers

This very clearly illustrates a couple of things. Firstly, there’s a class of people whom we refer to as scientifically illiterate science worshipers (SISW). They have no knowledge of science but they’re prepared to say anything at all that sounds like science in order to appear superior. Secondly, this still doesn’t answer the question. Even if the Earth had a core made of magma, the real question is, why is the magma hot and where did it come from? So not only are SISWs devoid of scientific knowledge but they’re also utterly superficial. I pointed out that the SISW’s answer wasn’t a testable hypothesis, and therefore, it’s not scientific. They became abusive. That’s what happens.

Our Most Persistent Troll

As luck would have it, my most persistent Troll provided an answer to the question that, again, was not an answer to the question, but was an attempt to appear sciency in a less superficial way. He posted a link to a video that describes for us how the use of seismic waves has given us our current understanding of the internal structure of the Earth.

The End from the Beginning

However, it is easier to work backwards from the present to see what we think that the internal structure of the Earth may have looked like and how it’s changed. We have to bear in mind is that there are several physical features of the internal structure of the Earth mentioned in scripture which have to be accounted for. Things such as the foundations of the earth, the foundations of the mountain, the great deep, the pillars of the Earth etc.

We have to take a holistic approach that embodies the scriptural principle of knowing the end from the beginning, and the beginning from the end. Let’s start by looking at the diagram and making a few observations about it.

Seismological Data

Firstly we have to have an understanding of the method used to collect data that may be of use. In this case the data comes from detecting earthquakes at many and various places around the Earth. When an earthquake occurs waves are produced that propagate through the Earth in different ways. Broadly speaking, there are two main types of waves, P Waves and S Waves. P Waves are transverse waves that can propagate through anything, solid, liquid or gas, and S Waves are lateral waves and can only propagate through solid matter. Notice on the diagram that there are several curved lines that appear to indicate the path of both P and S waves through the Earth.

Bending the Truth

• We’ve drawn straight lines from the earthquake to the point at 104° which gives us the inner surface of the mantle, and
• from the earthquake to the point at 140° which gives us the location of the surface of the core.

We are also going to have to understand that the decision to regard the outer core as liquid is speculative at best, and there is no scientific reason why it can’t be empty space. In Matty’s paradigm there is no liquid outer core, but it is open space. We know this from the Gospel of Luke.

The Great Gulf

• The core is larger, with a radius about 1800 km (rather than 1100).
• The inner surface of the mantle is approximately 4100 km from the core (3600 kn in the original diagram).
• The great gulf that Abraham spoke of is about 2000 km wide.

This gives us the ability to calculate a value for the volume of material in the mantle.

The Pillars of the Earth

This is where it gets interesting, and where we need to think about incorporating the Pillars of the Earth. The Pillars of the Earth are referred to in a few places in scripture. Flat Earthers get into a total mess over the pillars of the earth, but in Matty’s Paradigm they aren’t a problem at all, they are part of the Earth’s internal structure.

If physical features such as Monument Valley Utah, Pilot Mountain North Carolina and Saint Michael’s Mount in the UK are examples of remnants of the pillars of the earth, then they represent the approximate height of the inner surface of the mantle in the Earth that God formed on the 3rd day. The Earth has experienced radial shrinkage: it’s diameter decreased. What we can do is take the value for the volume of mantle material, and use it to calculate the thickness of the mantle if it was a sphere, the lower surface of which is about the size of the Earth’s diameter now. Do you see what I am getting at? The pillars of the Earth, like Pilot Mountain, were once part of the earth’s internal structure. The whole mantle was above the top of them at one time.

To make a long story short, this means that the original radius of the Earth was 7,653 km, and the mantle was about 1,282 km thick. This gives us a fascinating insight into the formation of the earth and the history of it as it has undergone changes over the years. Here is a simplified sequence of the main stages in the formation and change in the structure of the Earth that is the reason for its present condition.

The Third Day of Creation

No change in the total volume of the system but the Earth is stretched out above the waters (Psalm 136:6), displacing the majority of the water underground. This forms the Great Deep and establishes the hydrological cycle.The Pillars of the Earth are formed and set upon the Foundations of the Earth. The hydrological cycle is a system of geothermal heating and circulating through the great deep and the 4 rivers that flowed from Eden.

Noah’s Flood

Increasing core temperature begins to drive out all water from the Great Deep. It is no longer part of a hydrological cycle and the interior of the Earth becomes dry. Evaporation of the flood waters causes rapid cooling of the Earth surface and causes the Ice Age.

The Pillars of the earth are melting and there is no support for the Earth’s mantle except for the highly compressed nature of the material pressing against itself. Hell is expanding.

Present Day

Are you scared yet? There are a whole bunch of armor-plated horse-sized locusts with scorpion tails below the Earth’s surface somewhere in the mantle, most likely occupying what was formerly called paradise (Abraham’s Bosom). They’re probably tired of being hot and are really ready to come out and start attacking people. (Revelation 9:1-12).

Hell is expanding, it’s the cause of Global Warming.
