Copy the Heavenly:Water into Wine

Those things, which are copies of the heavenly originals, had to be purified in that way. But the heavenly things themselves require much better sacrifices.

(Hebrews 9:23) Good News Translation

Pattern and process repeat themselves in creation. We’re told that things on Earth are copied from things in the heavens. Can we use this truth to understand how Jesus turned water into wine?

This plays out in a variety of ways throughout the broad narrative of scripture. In February we’ll develop the core accretion model and show how the build up of concentric layers of sediment applies to construction of both the Earth and the heavens (firmament).

If we’re mindful and allow ourselves to embrace the possibilities that come from a perfect harmonization of science with the Bible, we can take it further back to the first day of creation. When God said “let light be,” he initiated the process of nucleosynthesis in a body of water called the deep. This was God’s first creative act, his first miracle. Can we be so bold as to impute the process of manipulating elemental nuclei to Jesus’ first recorded miracle: changing water into wine for the wedding at Cana?

And if we deduce that Jesus has the power to manipulate atomic nuclei how does this affect how we understand other miracles, like feeding the 5,000? Is there a way to explain this miracle from within the realm of Physics? Yes there is.

But then, what if we choose not to?

Christianity in the Good Ole’ US of A

I asked, “Lord, why is the land devastated and dry as a desert, so that no one travels through it? Who is wise enough to understand this? To whom have you explained it so that they can tell others?”

The Lord answered, “This has happened because my people have abandoned the teaching that I gave them. They have not obeyed me or done what I told them. Instead, they have been stubborn and have worshiped the idols of Baal as their ancestors taught them to do.

What if we stubbornly insist that the Bible isn’t a science book? What if we reject any possibility that a plan for the particle physics of the universe has been encoded into scripture? What if we satisfy ourselves with a superficial knowledge of science, conclude that it’s not the same as the Bible, and then reject it out of hand?

It already happened. That’s the path we’re walking. Look at the chaos in the world around us. A lot of the people who stormed the US Capitol on January 6, 2021 would proudly claim to be Christian. A lot of them have supported fake news conspiracy theories about the US election because that’s what Christian leadership told them to do. Christian leadership in the USA is beyond help. This is the continuing end of the USA. It’s going to be a long, slow, painful death.
