Deducing Gravity
And God made the expanse and separated the waters that were under the expanse from the waters that were above the expanse. And it was so.
(Genesis 1:7) ESV
Gravity is fundamental to the working out of God’s plan for creation. So how on earth did we manage to deduce that gravity was created on the second day? There are three steps to this logic.
- Formless > Formed
- Orientation Under and Above
- Compass: Focus and Circumference
We use the change from formless to formed, the appearance of the orientation under and above, and the analogy of a drawing compass having a focus and circumference to deduce that gravity was created on the second day.
We all have the same evidence. Our choice of paradigm determines what we think it’s evidence of.
– Matty’s Razor
- IF the deep was a formless body of water,
- BUT is changed so that it has up/down orientation,
- AND a central focus and perimeter circumference,
- CAN we deduce the cause of this change?
It’s not hard to imagine that the creation of gravity could have brought about these changes. However, we need to look at other passages which describe the early parts of the sequence of creation to see what we can find. If we’re on the right track then there ought to be a concept of gravity in scripture in the context of the second day of creation. This gives us two predictive testable hypotheses: Hypothesis 21 and Hypothesis 26.
Faith is believing in something that you can’t see, because of evidence.
– Faith, definition
If God made a point in space the permanent center of creation, but yet he dwells above and apart from it, does this represent a sacrificial act? Did God have to give up part of himself to accomplish this? We’ll use deductive reasoning to investigate the possibility that gravity is God’s love, and see where this leads us. Is gravity part of the plan of redemption and salvation through faith in Jesus Christ?
