To Sink, Sink Down
“Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Tell me, if you have understanding. Who determined its measurements—surely you know! Or who stretched the line upon it? On what were its bases sunk, or who laid its cornerstone, when the morning stars sang together and all the sons of God shouted for joy?
(Job 38:4-7) ESV
The concept of sinking down occurs in the creation narrative when God laid the foundations of the earth. The meaning of this phrase is congruent with the creation of a gravitational singularity on the second day.
This is an example of the use of Hypotheses 22, although in this case we have an hypothesis which is specific to the concept of gravity Hypothesis 21. If the creative act of the second day was the inception of gravity, then a Hebrew concept of gravity ought to occur in a precise context in the sequence of creation: the beginning of the second day.
We all have the same evidence. Our choice of paradigm determines what we think it’s evidence of.
– Matty’s Razor
Predictive Testable Hypothesis 21
- IF the initial ordering of creation was the inception of gravity,
- AND this caused the deep to change from formless to spherical,
- THEN the concept of gravity will occur in scripture in the context of the 2nd day.
This may seem like an odd approach to take but it’s logical. Not only that but, as predicted, scripture gives us a positive result. Today’s featured passage from Job 38 gives the concept of gravity in the context of the second day of creation. On what were its bases sunk? The word translated as sunk is the Hebrew word taba – טָבַע to sink.
The phrase foundations of the earth in Hebrew isn’t equivalent to the foundations of the world in Greek which has a different application. Both phrases are used in a consistent and precise manner. In the context given in Isaiah 51, and others, laying the foundations of the earth occurs simultaneously with stretching forth the heavens.
