Earth Shock

Your country is desolate, your cities are burned with fire: your land, strangers devour it in your presence, and it is desolate, as overthrown by strangers. And the daughter of Zion is left as a cottage in a vineyard, as a lodge in a garden of cucumbers, as a besieged city. Except the LORD of hosts had left unto us a very small remnant, we should have been as Sodom, and we should have been like unto Gomorrah.

(Isaiah 1:7-9) KJV

Popular science (SciPop) wants you to believe in an extraterrestrial impact when a meteor hit the Earth. Amos saw it coming. Uzziah tried to stop it. Isaiah began his prophetic ministry standing in its smoking ruins.

During the opening lines of the book of Isaiah we can figure that Isaiah was a young man who was just beginning his ministry. In his youth he enjoyed the pomp and splendor of the early years of the reign of King Uzziah. Uzziah started well, he built up the fortifications of Jerusalem to include sophisticated archery and artillery, trained and equipped the army, and lead somewhat of a spiritual revival. During his youth Isaiah got to experience the excitement and pride of living in a thriving and prosperous city-state.

As time passed and Isaiah served under a succession of Kings in Judah and a revolving door of Kings in Israel we see that Jerusalem, Judah and the surrounding lands were beaten down by one natural disaster after another and continual warring between the neighboring states.

By the time that Isaiah finishes his career as a very old man, Jerusalem is defenseless and surrounded by such desolation that the 185,000 strong Assyrian army is able march up to the gates and camp outside the walls.

We’re going to make the case that the meteorite impact which popular science (SciPop) uses as an-inductive-plot-device-anywhere-in-it’s-narrative-where-it-needs-one was prophesied by the prophet Amos who saw it coming.
