And before the throne there was a sea of glass like unto crystal: and in the midst of the throne, and round about the throne, were four beasts full of eyes before and behind.
(Revelation 4:6) KJV
Accepting the firmament as a sphere of rigid crystal on the edge of space solves many scriptural and physical problems. The King James Version is the only Bible from which an accurate cosmological model may be deduced.
If heaven is a circuit around the Earth then we can deduce two things:
- Heaven is spherical,
- Earth is at the center.
The firmament is clearly a made thing, something which has been constructed, not merely an empty expanse as most translations render it.
Hast thou with him spread out the sky, which is strong, and as a molten looking glass?
(Job 37:18) KJV
It’s referred to as a sea of glass as seen from above in the vision of John, the book we know of as Revelation.
And I saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with fire: and them that had gotten the victory over the beast, and over his image, and over his mark, and over the number of his name, stand on the sea of glass, having the harps of God.
(Revelation 15:2) KJV
Ezekiel saw a vision of the firmament, but from below. He describes it as being like stretched out crystal.
And I looked, and there in the firmament that was above the head of the cherubim, there appeared something like a sapphire stone, having the appearance of the likeness of a throne.
(Ezekiel 10:1) NKJV
And again, in more detail, appearing to describe a sheet of crystal stretched out overhead.
And the likeness of the firmament upon the heads of the living creature was as the colour of the terrible crystal, stretched forth over their heads above. And under the firmament were their wings straight, the one toward the other: every one had two, which covered on this side, and every one had two, which covered on that side, their bodies. And when they went, I heard the noise of their wings, like the noise of great waters, as the voice of the Almighty, the voice of speech, as the noise of an host: when they stood, they let down their wings. And there was a voice from the firmament that was over their heads, when they stood, and had let down their wings.
And above the firmament that was over their heads was the likeness of a throne, as the appearance of a sapphire stone: and upon the likeness of the throne was the likeness as the appearance of a man above upon it. And I saw as the colour of amber, as the appearance of fire round about within it, from the appearance of his loins even upward, and from the appearance of his loins even downward, I saw as it were the appearance of fire, and it had brightness round about. As the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud in the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness round about. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD. And when I saw it, I fell upon my face, and I heard a voice of one that spake.
(Ezekiel 1:22-28) KJV
Accepting the doctrine of the firmament as a sphere of rigid crystal that encloses the cosmos solves many scriptural problems. It also gives us a way to account for the plethora of scientific observations that are currently taken as validation of the Star Trek universe.
It accounts for %90 of the mass of the universe which current cosmological models tell us appears to be missing. It’s been detected by Voyager and the New Horizons space missions and is described as a brightly shining wall on the edge of space.

The Firmament
Many people have struggled with interpreting creation of the firmament.
