The Mountain of the Lord’s House
1 The word that Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem.
( Isaiah 2:1-5 ) KJV
2 And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the LORD’S house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it.
3 And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
4 And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.
5 O house of Jacob, come ye, and let us walk in the light of the LORD.
Now that we understand that during the time of the Tribulation the whole surface of the earth will be moved around, flattened out, and Jerusalem will be lifted up as the summit of a mountain which fills the whole earth, we can understand a lot more scripture besides the prophecy in Revelation.
The opening of seals (Revelation 6), blowing of trumpets (Revelation 8-11 ) and pouring out of vials of wrath (Revelation 16) gives us a context which has so much structure that we can see how other passages are also describing it. Isaiah chapter 2 is an example.
What we have to bear in mind is that although the blowing of trumpets and pouring out of vials is described sequentially, the physical phenomena overlap each other so that, from the perspective of someone on earth experiencing them, they may appear to be all happening at the same time. This means that when we find a passage like Isaiah 2 where the phenomena don’t appear in the same sequence as elsewhere it is not an inconsistency, it is simply a different account of the same events but from another point of view.
Summary of Isaiah 2
- Isaiah 2:1-5 – Trumpet/Vial 7
- Isaiah 2:6-9 – The Condemnation
- Isaiah 2:10-12 – Trumpet/Vial 5, 6 and 7
- Isaiah 2:13-15 – Trumpet/Vial 1
- Isaiah 2:16 – Trumpet/Vial 2 and 3
- Isaiah 2:17-22 – Trumpet/Vial 5 and 7
Let’s break it down
Isaiah 2:1-5
As quoted above, this is the archetype of passages which describe the Millennial Kingdom. This is a time in the future when all of earth’s landmasses are brought together into one contiguous continent. Hills will be flattened and valleys will be lifted up so that everyone on earth will have an unobstructed view of Jerusalem which is at the top of a mountain which fills the whole earth. This gives us the context in which to understand the whole rest of the chapter.
Isaiah 2:6-9
This passage doesn’t contain any clues which can connect us to prophecy about the tribulation, it is the condemnation. This is the statement of why the Lord is justified in doing what is going to be done.
Isaiah 2:10-12
10 Enter into the rock, and hide thee in the dust, for fear of the LORD, and for the glory of his majesty.
( Isaiah 2:10-12 ) KJV
11 The lofty looks of man shall be humbled, and the haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, and the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day.
12 For the day of the LORD of hosts shall be upon every one that is proud and lofty, and upon every one that is lifted up; and he shall be brought low:
This is clearly trumpet/vial 5 and 6. People are hiding themselves in the rocks and dust to escape, among other things, the horse-sized armor-plated locusts which are invading the earth from deep below the surface. The people have been plagued by the noisome sore which fell upon them (1st Trumpet/Vial) and have been scared to death by the chaos unfolding around them.

15 And upon every high tower, and upon every fenced wall,
This describes the judgement of God coming upon the land. This would appear to be the 1st Trumpet/Vial. Hail and fire mingles with blood falls from the sky causing a grievous sore and destroying trees, grass, and personal property.

Isaiah 2:17-22
17 And the loftiness of man shall be bowed down, and the haughtiness of men shall be made low: and the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day.
( Isaiah 2:17-22 ) KJV
18 And the idols he shall utterly abolish.
19 And they shall go into the holes of the rocks, and into the caves of the earth, for fear of the LORD, and for the glory of his majesty, when he ariseth to shake terribly the earth.
20 In that day a man shall cast his idols of silver, and his idols of gold, which they made each one for himself to worship, to the moles and to the bats;
21 To go into the clefts of the rocks, and into the tops of the ragged rocks, for fear of the LORD, and for the glory of his majesty, when he ariseth to shake terribly the earth.
22 Cease ye from man, whose breath is in his nostrils: for wherein is he to be accounted of?
This is the part of the prophecy which deals with what it is going to be like to be on earth and experience the Tribulation. The sheer terror of the events is going to drive people to hide and wish for death. When he ariseth to shake terribly the earth, repeated twice, emphasizes the magnitude of the earthquake that will be ongoing as the continents are moved into place and Jerusalem is lifted up.
