Sowing and Reaping

So then neither he who plants is anything, nor he who waters, but God who gives the increase.

(1 Corinthians 3:7) KJV

Social Media and the Great Commission: Part 2

  • Every online interaction is an opportunity to plant a seed or water one.

The numbers we’ve posted on followers/following aren’t particularly big, not by celebrity standards, but they’re not for the purpose of boasting. We’re nothing, nobody, with no support or endorsements of any kind yet these numbers represent considerable reach around the world where we’re able to sow seeds and water.

We also want to show how close we like to run to a 1:1 ratio of followers to following. People will follow you simply because they know they’ll get a followback. That’s pretty shallow, but it’s a window of opportunity. If you follow someone or like one of their pictures they may take a look at your profile. If your profile honors the Lord then you have sown a seed.

Something to bear in mind is that it’s not the evangelist’s responsibility to make people believe. The act of obedience is to say the words that need to be said. Convincing people of the truth of the message is the work of the Holy Spirit. It’s like planting seeds and watering them. A farmer or gardener plants and waters in faith, but has no control over the outcome or the hoped for crop. That is in God’s hands.
