The Pillars of the Earth and it’s Original Radius

He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth up the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory: for the pillars of the earth are the LORD’S, and he hath set the world upon them.

(1 Samuel 2:8) KJV

There are some clues for us to be able to figure out the Earth’s former size. This comes from the pillars of the Earth which are part of its internal structure.

Shown is Pilot Mountain, North Carolina, but there are other examples of these types of geological formations. Here’s where it gets really cool: If the top of the pillars of the Earth, for example Pilot Mountain, represent the approximate radius of the inner surface of the original Earth’s mantle, we can use the volume of mantle material to get an estimate of the Earth’s original radius.

We all have the same evidence. Our choice of paradigm determines what we think it’s evidence of.

Matty’s Razor

The pillars of the Earth also have some Biblical synonyms that we should take a moment to acknowledge.

If the volume of mantle material, 7.95E+11 m3, is formed into an even layer with an inner diameter of 6,371 km, the thickness of the layer can be calculated and with it the original radius of the Earth. We have to take the total volume of the present Earth and add to it the volume of mantle material.

The radius of a sphere of this volume is approximately 7,653 km. The open space between the mantle and core was originally full of water. This was known initially as the great deep, but after Noah’s flood it becomes the great gulf. We refer to this as the tehom-sheol transition. The Bible refers to features of the great gulf in a variety of ways.
