The Pangaea super-continent broke up into tectonic plates and these moved into their current locations over the space of a century or so. How do we know? By studying paleomagnetism.
If you Google today’s title you’ll be awash in articles which summarize data on the speed of plate tectonics: The rate at which the tectonic plates move and cause sea floor spreading in the Atlantic Ocean, or upthrust in the Himalayan Mountains.
There are many very solid scholarly articles which are hampered by one major problem: the time scale required for biological evolution and the popular science narrative for the development of life as we see it today (SciPop).
This time scale requires an excessive number of millions of years. These millions of years have to be inductively rationalized into the whole of the rest of SciPop. This has a ripple effect into all other fields of study and they have to be slowed down to fit this exaggerated time line. This has the sad side-effect of yoking SciPop, whether it wants to admit it or not, together with 19th Century Uniformitarianism.
The break up of Pangaea occurred 101 years after Noah’s flood. It occurred when the expansion of hell completely melted the foundations of the Earth. The Earth’s radius dropped by over 1,200 Km.
Supposedly the sequential addition of material either side of mid-ocean ridges, where sea floor spreading occurs, record for us the temperamental swings of the Earth’s magnetic field. The study of this is called paleomagnetism. This is how we know, in the popular science paradigm (SciPop), that the Earth’s magnetic field has repeatedly reversed polarity over the course of millions of years.
That seems rather far fetched when we consider another possibility: the areas where the lithified magma records changes in magnetic polarity may be annual, like the rings in trees. All of a sudden the rate at which the tectonic plates moved into position, and then stopped moving, is down to the realm of centuries at most.
