How to Qualify a YES Answer

And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

(Philippians 4:7) ESV

It’s possible to redeemed and gay at the same time, however, this causes tension between our spiritual and carnal natures and robs us of the peace which passes all understanding.

Being redeemed happens when we put our faith in Jesus Christ and confess our guilt before God and acknowledge that we’re a sinner. We pray the sinners prayer, a statement of which is in the passage below from Romans.

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

(Romans 10:9-10) KJV

So if we confess our sin, repent, and call upon the name of Jesus Christ we’re saved. This is when the Christian walk begins.

I am a sinner that is why I need a savior.
Please Lord Jesus forgive my sins and save my soul.

– Simplified Sinners Prayer

This is when life becomes beautiful and sweet but also precarious and bitter. Our sinful nature is still there. Whatever sin we used to indulge before we got saved is still a temptation. There are times when we’re weak and succumb to temptation. This causes us guilt, but we’re still saved and we can still be forgiven.

Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

(Hebrews 12:1-2) KJV

This is why being a Christian can be a miserable experience. If we don’t separate ourselves from desire and the lust of the flesh then we won’t have any power over them. If we’re born again but, for instance, living with a woman who we’re not married to, then we’ll grieve the Holy Spirit. Every time we get down on our knees to pray our conscience will remind us of our sin. We have to spend the first part of every prayer wringing our hands and apologizing.

Likewise, if we’re saved and trying to live an LGBTQIA+ lifestyle we won’t have peace in our heart. It’s a weight which will drag us down. These are the weights that we’re supposed to lay aside. We won’t be able to experience the peace that passes all understanding.

However, it’s possible to live like this. We’ve done it. We’re not gay but we’ve been in sinful relationships at times since we got saved. They didn’t work out for us because our desire for fellowship with God through the Holy Spirit was stronger than our desire to be in a sinful relationship. So yes, you can be redeemed and gay. You won’t be happy, but you can do it. However, this is the same spiritual tension under which every Christian lives. As far as God is concerned, sin is sin. A Christian who embezzles money from their employer might think that they’re somehow better than a Christian who’s living an LGBTQIA+ lifestyle. God doesn’t see it that way. The fact is, we all have our crosses to bear.
