The pillars of heaven tremble, And are astonished at His rebuke.(Job 26:11) NKJV
Most English versions translate the pillars of heaven as the foundations of heaven, or the foundations of the heavens, so there may or may not be actual pillars in heaven which we have to account for.
That being said we’re going to assume that there are indeed pillars in heaven and we’re going to account for them. The Hebrew word from which this has been translated is mostly used to refer to the pillar of smoke by day and the pillar of fire by night by which the Lord led the children of Israel through the wilderness.
We all have the same evidence. Our choice of paradigm determines what we think it’s evidence of.– Matty’s Razor
And the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so as to go by day and night.(Exodus 13:21) NKJV
This leads us to conclude that the intent in the meaning of the word is pillars, as opposed to foundation. We’ve already given an extensive rationale for the origin and nature of the foundations of heaven, and we’ve resolved this with the firmament, a sphere of rigid crystal on the edge of space. We don’t have to make the case that the foundations of the heavens are pillars, and so what are they for and what purpose do they serve?
And the posts of the door were shaken by the voice of him who cried out, and the house was filled with smoke.(Isaiah 6:4) NKJV
And Samson lay low till midnight; then he arose at midnight, took hold of the doors of the gate of the city and the two gateposts, pulled them up, bar and all, put them on his shoulders, and carried them to the top of the hill that faces Hebron.(Judges 16:3) NKJV
The pillars of heaven may be there to support the pearly gates.
The twelve gates were twelve pearls: each individual gate was of one pearl. And the street of the city was pure gold, like transparent glass.(Revelation 21:21) NKJV
