August 13
Then God remembered Noah, and every living thing, and all the animals that were with him in the ark. And God made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters subsided.
(Genesis 8:1) NKJV
After Noah’s flood a wind caused the water to evaporate. The cooling effect caused the formation of equatorial and polar ice. Temperate zones were in the mid-latitudes of the Northern and Southern Hemispheres.
We’re taking a leisurely stroll through the periods of geological history and this is our second look at the Permian, a dumpster fire of inductive rationalization.
In the popular science narrative (SciPop) the Permian is the end of the Paleozoic and the beginning of the Mesozoic, so it’s somewhere in the middle of the flood. Technically speaking it would be the transition from deluge to inundation: the rain stopped but the waters would cover the Earth for at least nine months before subsiding. Except that it isn’t. The Permian is used to gather up a lot of very inconvenient truth about what happened immediately after Noah’s flood. Yesterday we found that many deposits assigned to the Permian are geological features which happened after the flood, at the time of Peleg’s tectonics.
We’ve often said that SciPop is contrived. The Permian period is a particularly good example of a contrivance. Wilson N. Stewart’s description of the Permian includes a reference to extensive glaciation in the southern hemisphere. There are a couple of things about this that are odd.
PERMIAN
– Wilson N. Stewart, Paleobotany and the evolution of plants.
Uplift in Appalachian geosyncline. Cooler and drier climates with extensive glaciation in Southern Hemisphere. Rise of Northern Hemisphere Voltziales and diversification of Southern Hemisphere glossopterids. Extinction, arborescent lycopsids, and sphenopsids. Diversification of reptiles.
However, before we proceed with our breakdown of the Permian dumpster fire we need to discuss some strategy.
