Can a reprobate mind be reversed?

And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;

Google search console is fascinating. It allows you to see how people find your content. People find us who are worried about whether or not they may have a reprobate mind.

We (that’s me and the Holy spirit) were taught in church that the reprobate mind is a curse which will make you gay. We suspect that many of the folk who are concerned about whether or not they may have a reprobate mind are people who identify as LGBTQIA+. They’re confused and worried.

In terms of the traditional teaching, if you’re gay it’s because you’re reprobate, and if you’re reprobate then you have no hope. It’s too late for you to do anything about it. As far as they’re concerned, Gay = dead.

Present Context

In context (Romans chapter 1) a reprobate mind is the result of rejecting the self-evident truth that the universe exists because it was created by God. The cause (God) and effect (creation) exist in that order. This is the correct relationship of cause and effect.

If you’re determined to deny the truth about God, the first thing that you have to do is place cause and effect into the wrong relationship. When you’ve convinced yourself that the universe exists because it exists and then sometime later humans evolved and decided to invent God, then don’t be surprised when you can’t understand why behavior causes consequences.

Like when you elect a washed-up billionaire playboy reprobate to be President of the USA and then act surprised when he tries to overthrow democracy. That’s reprobate. It has nothing to do with being gay.

Or say you drink a dozen beers, drive home on the highway at 90+ mph and cause the death of a family, then you get upset because you’re stuck with $10,000 in legal fees. That’s reprobate. It has nothing to do with being gay.

Or say you build the theology (study of God) of the Western Church on a pseudoscientific rationalization of the premise that there is no god (popular science). You end up backed into a corner so that when the truth is revealed that science and the Bible are the same thing, you have to reject both. That’s reprobate. It has nothing to do with being gay.

Cause and Effect

Cause and effect is a universal principle which is otherwise known as “we reap what we sow” and it may be called karma. It’s a physical manifestation of Newton’s third law: for every action there’s an equal and opposite reaction.

If you reject the truth about our creator God and willfully choose an alternative explanation for the origin of the universe in which the relationship between cause and effect has been reversed, you’re reprobate. If you have lust for people of your own gender you’re not going to be able to overcome it.

But what if you were gay long before you ever wondered about God and the origin of the universe? In this case your gender identification has nothing to do with making a willful choice about cause and effect. It’s just who you are. Stop worrying about it. If you’re worried about it then it means you’re fine.

Can a reprobate mind be reversed?
