Paul stood up in front of the city council and said, “I see that in every way you Athenians are very religious. For as I walked through your city and looked at the places where you worship, I found an altar on which is written, ‘To an Unknown God.’ That which you worship, then, even though you do not know it, is what I now proclaim to you. God, who made the world and everything in it, is Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples made by human hands. Nor does he need anything that we can supply by working for him, since it is he himself who gives life and breath and everything else to everyone. From one human being he created all races of people and made them live throughout the whole earth. He himself fixed beforehand the exact times and the limits of the places where they would live. He did this so that they would look for him, and perhaps find him as they felt around for him. Yet God is actually not far from any one of us; as someone has said,(Acts 17: 22-28) Good News Translation
‘In him we live and move and exist.’
It is as some of your poets have said,
‘We too are his children.’
We (that’s me and the Holy spirit) have deduced a theory of gravitation from the Holy Bible which makes the Newton/Einstein paradigm obsolete (SciPop). Of course you don’t believe us. That’s why we’re going to prove it, using golf.
On one hand we could say that we’re trying to sense the tension between gravitational bodies (the ball and the pin) but on the other hand, all we have to do is have faith that the tension is there. We don’t have to sense it, we just have to believe it.
Once we’ve done that we’re going to allow the elasticity that exists between the particles of nature to guide the swing, to supply the targeting needed to get the ball to the target. We’re not manipulating gravity, we’re just understanding it.
We’re not trying to control or manipulate elemental forces, but we’re going to acknowledge that they’re there. We’re going to acknowledge the one who has the power to control or manipulate them, God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, in whom we have our life and being.
Paul found himself in Athens, possibly the capital of pagan life on Earth in his time. He was surrounded by intelligent, inquisitive people who were all looking for the answer to life, the universe, and everything. He watched them look everywhere except truth: the world in which we live, breath and exist. Everywhere. The fabric of our being. This God is the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the one who has the power to say that Jesus Christ is the name above all names.
- Call upon the name of Jesus Christ,
- believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead,
- confess your sin.
