Exodus

Hundreds of tiny figures of people walking across a barren landscape.

So there was hail, and fire mingled with the hail, very grievous, such as there was none like it in all the land of Egypt since it became a nation.

(Exodus 9:24) KJV

The plagues of the Exodus included rivers and streams turning into blood, a rain of hail mingled with fire, and impenetrable darkness in which people couldn’t see their hands in front of their faces.

The Recent Epoch

Portrait of Charles Darwin gesturing for us to be quiet

September 14

Behold, the LORD maketh the earth empty, and maketh it waste, and turneth it upside down, and scattereth abroad the inhabitants thereof.

(Isaiah 24:1) KJV

The recent epoch is everything since Peleg’s tectonics. Few people have had a greater influence on this time than Charles Darwin.

The Speed of Plate Tectonics

Bathymetric map of the world

September 13

He stood, and measured the earth: he beheld, and drove asunder the nations; and the everlasting mountains were scattered, the perpetual hills did bow: his ways are everlasting.

(Habakkuk 3:6) KJV

The Pangaea super-continent broke up into tectonic plates and these moved into their current locations over the space of a century or so. How do we know? By studying paleomagnetism.

The Earth was Divided

To Eber were born two sons: the name of one was Peleg, for in his days the earth was divided; and his brother’s name was Joktan.

(Genesis 10:25) NKJV

To Eber were born two sons: the name of one was Peleg, for in his days the earth was divided; and his brother’s name was Joktan.

Babel

the ancient city of Babel was an attempt to reach the heavens

September 5

Now the whole earth had one language and one speech. And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar, and they dwelt there. Then they said to one another, “Come, let us make bricks and bake them thoroughly.” They had brick for stone, and they had asphalt for mortar. And they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top is in the heavens; let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth.”

(Genesis 11:1-4) NKJV

We’re told that, after Noah’s flood, the people decided to stay together as a community and build a city. That wasn’t what God had in mind. He was working with a deadline.

Sing unto the LORD a new song, and his praise from the end of the earth, ye that go down to the sea, and all that is therein; the isles, and the inhabitants thereof.

(Isaiah 42:10) KJV

Australia was part of Pangaea for 101 years after Noah’s flood. That’s how Monotremes got there. If you’ve been vexing Creationists with the issue of Australia’s unique fauna: time’s up, find a new game. Sing a new song.

They went into the ark with Noah, two and two of all flesh in which there was the breath of life. And those that entered, male and female of all flesh, went in as God had commanded him. And the Lord shut him in.

(Genesis 7:15-16) ESV

There were two horses on Noah’s ark, a mating pair, now there are at least seven species in genus Equus. That’s macro-evolution. Noah’s ark was the beginning of evolution as we know it.
