The Lamb’s Book of Life

By its light will the nations walk, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it, and its gates will never be shut by day—and there will be no night there. They will bring into it the glory and the honor of the nations. But nothing unclean will ever enter it, nor anyone who does what is detestable or false, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s book of life.

(Revelation 21:24-27) ESV

Is your name written in the Lamb’s book of life? The Lamb is Jesus Christ. Believe in Jesus Christ and your name is written in the book of life.

Meekness of Wisdom

Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good conduct let him show his works in the meekness of wisdom. But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth. This is not the wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice. But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere. And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.

(James 3:13-18) ESV

We’ve been thinking about being meek. Probably because we don’t think that we are very meek. Meek isn’t a bad thing. Definitions of meek seem to miss the point.

No Need of Sun or Moon

And I saw no temple in the city, for its temple is the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb. And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb.

(Revelation 21:22-23) ESV

There won’t be a temple in the New Jerusalem because there won’t be any need for a symbolic representation of God. God’s glory will be the light we live by, unimpeded, for the rest of forever.

All Manner of Precious Stones

And the foundations of the wall of the city were garnished with all manner of precious stones.

(Revelation 21:19) KJV

And the foundations of the wall of the city were layers of crystalline material arranged in order.

(Revelation 21:19) Paraphrased

Meaning comes from context. For example the phrase “were garnished” in Revelation 21:19. One meaning could be: the wall of the city had foundations, and the foundations had been decorated with precious stones.

Foursquare 2.0

And he that talked with me had a golden reed to measure the city, and the gates thereof, and the wall thereof. And the city lieth foursquare, and the length is as large as the breadth: and he measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand furlongs. The length and the breadth and the height of it are equal. And he measured the wall thereof, an hundred and forty and four cubits, according to the measure of a man, that is, of the angel.

(Revelation 21:15-17) KJV

1+1 = 2 is math, but it is also logical. It’s an example of cause and effect. The cause (1+1) produces the effect (2). God established the relationship between cause and effect when the Son, Jesus Christ, was begotten.

Clear as Crystal

And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb’s wife.

And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God, Having the glory of God: and her light was like unto a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal; And had a wall great and high, and had twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names written thereon, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel: On the east three gates; on the north three gates; on the south three gates; and on the west three gates. And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.

(Revelation 21:9-14) KJV

Denying the truth about God so that we may live an immoral life with no guilt has a glitch: we all still have guilt. Faith in popular science (SciPop) leads to the agony of unconfessed sin.

He Who Overcomes

He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son. But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”

(Revelation 21:7-8) NKJV

Overcoming is when we allow the Word of God to change us and make us more like the Lord. It’s when we realize that there is no spoon.

Cast off the Works of Darkness

The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.

(Romans 13:12) KJV

We’re children of light. We’ve been called to the light. A home has been prepared for us in the light. Let’s cast off the works of darkness and walk in the light.

Pure Gold

The city is laid out as a square; its length is as great as its breadth. And he measured the city with the reed: twelve thousand furlongs. Its length, breadth, and height are equal. Then he measured its wall: one hundred and forty-four cubits, according to the measure of a man, that is, of an angel. The construction of its wall was of jasper; and the city was pure gold, like clear glass.

(Revelation 21:16-18) NKJV

The streets of heaven are paved with gold so pure that it’s transparent. It would seem that this isn’t the same kind of gold that we have on Earth, but another element that’s not part of the known periodic table.
