Genesis 1 and 2 aren’t contradictory, they have different narrative styles. People who want to see contradictions are looking for an excuse to dismiss the truth, because they don’t want the truth.

A Pure River of Water of Life
Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb through the middle of the street of the city; also, on either side of the river, the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit each month. We live in a universe governed by physical laws. One of them is the first law of thermodynamics which says that energy can’t be created or destroyed, just transformed from one form to another.

Clear as Crystal
And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb’s wife.
And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God, Having the glory of God: and her light was like unto a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal; And had a wall great and high, and had twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names written thereon, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel: On the east three gates; on the north three gates; on the south three gates; and on the west three gates. And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.

Denying the truth about God so that we may live an immoral life with no guilt has a glitch: we all still have guilt. Faith in popular science (SciPop) leads to the agony of unconfessed sin.

The Mystery of God
And the angel which I saw stand upon the sea and upon the earth lifted up his hand to heaven, And sware by him that liveth for ever and ever, who created heaven, and the things that therein are, and the earth, and the things that therein are, and the sea, and the things which are therein, that there should be time no longer: But in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he shall begin to sound, the mystery of God should be finished, as he hath declared to his servants the prophets.

If all of the impurity and corruption has been disposed of in the lake of fire in outer darkness then the center of creation is free for God to inhabit with his people: those who chose him because they had freewill.

Why did God Create the Universe?
Sing unto the LORD a new song, and his praise from the end of the earth, ye that go down to the sea, and all that is therein; the isles, and the inhabitants thereof.

Why did God create the universe? God created the universe so that sentient beings with free will could make a choice between light or darkness, life or death.

Wines on the Lees
And in this mountain shall the LORD of hosts make unto all people a feast of fat things, a feast of wines on the lees, of fat things full of marrow, of wines on the lees well refined. And he will destroy in this mountain the face of the covering cast over all people, and the vail that is spread over all nations. He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from off all faces; and the rebuke of his people shall he take away from off all the earth: for the LORD hath spoken it.

Anyone who survives the tribulation will live in peace on the Lord’s holy mountain, build a shelter, plant a grape vine, and enjoy the good things of life. You just have to survive.

Who shall not fear thee, O Lord, and glorify thy name? for thou only art holy: for all nations shall come and worship before thee; for thy judgments are made manifest. And after that I looked, and, behold, the temple of the tabernacle of the testimony in heaven was opened: And the seven angels came out of the temple, having the seven plagues, clothed in pure and white linen, and having their breasts girded with golden girdles. And one of the four beasts gave unto the seven angels seven golden vials full of the wrath of God, who liveth for ever and ever. And the temple was filled with smoke from the glory of God, and from his power; and no man was able to enter into the temple, till the seven plagues of the seven angels were fulfilled.

The mountain referred to by Old Testament prophets as “my holy mountain” is a reworking of the current land configuration as opposed to something completely new of extra-terrestrial origin.

Isaiah and others speak about a new heavens and a new earth, but he isn’t referring to the new heaven and new earth which are described in Revelation chapters 21 and 22.
